Time to make the white blood cells!

Well, Dr. Scott got back to me today with the news: It's Neupogen time.

No, no, not Neutrogen. That's the stuff for skin problems ... however, I wonder if that will work better than the lotion I'm currently using.

According to Drugs.com, "Neupogen is a protein that stimulates production of white blood cells." It increases white blood cells, which decreases the risk of infection.

There's some funny stuff when you read about it:
  • Somehow it is associated with E. Coli and carries the warning, "Do not use Neupogen if you have an allergy to the bacterium E. Coli." Is anyone not affected by E. Coli?
  • "Contact your doctor if you develop a fever; chills; congestion ..." OK, let's see: I do this shot 24 hours before I do the PEGIntron. The PEGIntron sometimes sends me into chills or fever, while the Ribavirin can cause sinusitis. (In fact, I've had congestion since the day before I started treatment.)

What a gas!

Grace and peace ...

Hi Buz,
Today i watched the Pegasys self -injection guide on video for the first time. They say once you have inserted the needle under the skin, one should pull back the plunger very slightly. If blood comes into the syringe the needle has entered a blood vessel,DO NOT INJECT . Withdraw needle and discard the syringe, and then repeat the injection with a new prefilled syringe.I have had 3 shots so far and have never carried out this procedure. I just stick in the needle and slowly inject the interferon!
Looking forward to your comments.
Eddie
PS I really enjoy reading your blog, wish you look on your Hep C journey.

Hi Buzz
Good luck with your Neupogen - be interested to hear how it goes! Interesting territory - when the side-effects of one drug carry an implication for another, etc. - but all part of the territory called 'treatment'!
Go well
Ron
