Sweet's "The Purple Church"
I looked back in my files today and discovered Leonard Sweet's sermon "The Purple Church." So I should really give him credit for this concept of purple being the color of faith. You can find his sermon on preachingplus.com. It's a great piece.

Good morning, Pat.
I'm afraid your co-worker is mistaken. My church, Green Meadow United Methodist Church (www.themeadow.org), is actually located in Alcoa, Tennessee.
The reference I was making to "The Purple Church" is actually from a sermon delivered by Dr. Leonard Sweet, who does not currently serve any church that I'm aware of. The sermon spoke of the need for Christians to not be "Red," which is a reference to states who go Republican in presidential campaigns, nor "Blue," states who go Democratic in presidential campaigns. So, it is not a reference to a particular church, but a call to co-exist and become "The Purple Church." (After all, purple is made from mixing red and blue.)
